idiots @ bartonhill

Well I have to start somewhere and what more suitable than the first day of my college life. It was an orientation class for the freshers. The class was supposed to start by 9am and I crossed the the college gate with my dad at around 8.50am. I came early deliberately so that I could get myself comfortable in the front seats. The sight in the class was shocking. I could hardly find a vacant seat. I searched for a seat with the same vigour as if I was searching for some lost gold or something.. Eventually I was offered a small space on the last bench. There wasn't an inch of space left as 5 students were already comfortably placed there. In fact they might have thought that the space allotted was more than enough for me!!!

'Your name please'... I was as polite as I could as I wanted to make sure that the guy nearby wouldn't push me down :p

'Akhil VS.....yours? '
'Ashik.M.S' - I don't know whether I have this bad habit of telling my full name all the time.. Maybe I like my initials or maybe because I felt like making him understand that if he had a VS with his first name.., I have a MS with mine..
So Akhil it is; the first person I met in my college. I found his face somewhat familiar to me. In 'Koi Mil Gaya' and 'Avatar' I have seen a familiar face.. So now you can guess what I might be relating his face to!! :D

Class began.. The HOD of the Electrical department and Principal spoke about the achievements of and the facilities in the college and they were fighting among themselves to prove that Bartonhill is the 2nd best college in the state. Then they talked about GPA and CGPU and all those things that we had no idea before. Maybe he might have felt that it was easy to confuse freshers than to convince them!!! The session was over by 11.30am. I noticed that my dad was busy talking with 2 uncles. 2 girls were also standing nearby. My dad greeted me and said that those two are my classmates pointing to the girls.
'I'm Sreya '
'I'm Soya'
'And I'm Ashik' - deliberately skipped initials this time :)

Sreya and Soya..... Sreya was a familiar name for I've Shreya Ghoshal's songs in my mobile.. But what's this Soya? I was familiar with soya beans only-that edible bean that we use in foods. Suddenly another vegetable came into my mind-Tomato or 'Thakkali' in malayalam. There was a person in my native place named 'Thakkali' !!!! So it might be the new trend to give vegetable names to people..  Crazy eh??

Well, I will tell about my other friends.. There is one guy.. a fatso, named Nikhil Oomen Jacob. When I first noticed him he was trying to catch attention by doing magic. I felt like he had spent considerable amount of time previous day studying how to be a magician..:) Despite all his efforts he was unsuccessful in bringing on the magician in him. Every time his magics went in vein he had a smile. His size itself is an attention seaker. Still I don't know why he was trying to do something he didn't know..

Another guy is Ayoub... who thinks that college life is all about cutting classes. He had even shown his special talent in that area by leaving the class even when the teacher is taking a lecture.. Amazing guy he is!!
Then comes 2 K's - studious Karthik and the handsome Krishnanunni. They both hardly free their hands.. either they will be writing lecture notes or they will be texting girls!!! Then there is Ajmal - the show!! He may be the most popular guy in the class as he's a jack of all trades..

Then comes the Kozhikodan duo- the most intelligent Kiran and the most funny Abhijith. Their malabari slang itself is a feast to our ears.. One noticeable legend is Akash or "pattom muttada".  When some one asks his place he couple Pattom and Muttada and tell " I'm.. Pattom muttada " LOL . I still doubt if even he knows where actually his house is!!
Then there is Arun,Ashwin,Appu,Anoop, Govind - a gang which equally studious and humorous people.. Other noticeable legends are hyperactive Josy, typical CBSE product Pranoy, tallest Vishnu and Rahul, the most social Anoop J , singer Nithin Mani, ks,rakesh and the most decent Azhar. Finally there is an always happy Manjith & jithin, genius Leo and the best class representative in Deepak... Not to forget the lateral entry guy Sethu :)

Coming to girls.. I've already mentioned about Sreya and Soya. They are the lone witnesses of whatever stupid things I happened to make in the college and unfortunately that earned me a name 'Sasikuttan'!!! :D
Then there is a highly brave and multi-talented Aswathy, the athira duo and a High five, always united DASRA- named after Deepthi, 'thattathin marayath' Azmiya, brilliant Shincy,Reshmi and Archa..
Other popular names are  studious Lekshmi and Amrutha, class representative Hema, Geethu, Rohini,Aneesha,  and English girl Kalyani.. to name a few..

Also the space allotted is not enough to describe my whole class.. And one more thing..title says idiots..  After the film 3 idiots no on in the world may like to tell the word idiot in negative sense..Of course all engineering students are idiots... So happy to be called as Idiots!! :D

366 Days

18th July 2012 - You might be thinking what's the speciality of this date.. o..O   Of course it's today's date. For some curious ones, let me tell you my last post was also dated on 18th July; but exactly an year ago.
There is no use pondering over why I didn't update my blog for the past one year, for even I don't know why!! But one thing I know is during those 366 days I had my first year in college... that is; in Govt. Engineering College Barton Hill, Trivandrum...

So 366 days it is... including the unnoticed Feb 29. Okay; coming to my college.. Like everyone I'm proud of my college. I'm a part of it. So I can describe it in my own way.For everyone who hasn't even got a chance to visit it I can give them a brief description.. the way I see it. It's actually a small college.. Small in the sense too small!! If you could call 2-3 buildings with some teachers and a thousand students a college then ours too is one such. Of course it's a newly formed one, just about a decade old; and it's on the developing stage. So there is no point going on telling it's small. We just have to accept that it is in Kerala, and hope our college becomes 'bigger' before we pass out..

" Perfectly no ragging.. " - that's what everyone told before taking admission.. However if you ask some of my classmates including girls, then their reply may definitely be different, I tell you. Fortunately I'm spared from every piece of ragging. Thank God and "thank you" my sweet seniors.. :-D

Coming to the lectures, teachers were fighting among themselves to give the most boring lecture. Most of my classmates copied every word that they told onto their books like trained parrots. Some bunked classes, some used this opportunity to text each other, while the fourth kind of students, including me, felt it's a time to sleep!!!

Other memories include my IEEE membership, participation in All Kerala Young Scientist Competition and above all an unbelievably awesome night at our college fest AAGNEYA 5.0 . Finally a hand full of hangouts with my bhavanites..
Yes those 366 days have been simply AWESOME!!!

To the world of Technology

Finally it came....... Your rank is this... shown in the website of Kerala Entrance Commission.. Yes, that's the end of all the suspense.. It was as much awaited as the World Cup triumph earlier this year.. The latter brought smiles and joy though..

Phone calls...phone calls.... and more phone calls......... Most of them sounded the same...
'What happened??' ..... as if I've failed in the I standard!!!
But I'm thrilled for the fact that I'm going to be an engineer... But this engineering has got a problem..Strictly speaking this B.Tech has got a problem.. Though it spells same throughout the globe, its standard depends on college to college...... So mine wouldn't be as worthy as a B.Tech from IITs or NITs.. It would be just an ordinary B.Tech..... So what makes the latter superior? Maybe due to the huge facilities and the level of pedagogical systems that makes them stand apart.. Anyway its pointless going into all that..

Most probably I would get electrical engineering which is my preferred industry... I can bet you on the fact that only just a few, maybe around ten, in Kerala would like to take electrical engineering..  Most of them like to take mechanical.. Its interesting to note that 80% of them have no idea of what that field is... Still they tell ' I would like to take mech'...

Whatever it maybe I'm going to step into the world of technocrats and mind blowing industry of technology.. I always believe that young engineers can revolutionize the society; revolutionize India...  But most of the highly acclaimed brains are moving out of the country.. Unlike them, I don't want to work outside India like in NASA or in any other foreign company and then mourn and sing ' Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera ' !!!
Everyone boasts that they are different but end up doing the same thing.. Either they work for another country or they stay here doing something that will only multiply their bank account.. India still remains to be the same old, poor country..

This is my problem..... When I say something, I start from myself and end up somewhere......

Longest day of my life....

These days I have to wake up early,at 8 am. This new lifestyle had its birth since 16th of last month. Driving classes is the culprit..Cursing this early schedule I looked at the calender. Its May 19, thursday - the day I have the test for getting learner's licence. What a crap is that.... Licence for learning?? Or is it a permission to hit anyone or anything while we drive? Whatever it may be I have to get it to continue my classes. Having such ridiculous thoughts in mind I left my home at around 9.

I reached Pongmudu Sree Jyothi driving school at around 9.15am. There I had to put at least 8 signatures in as many columns.. I have done it as if I  was writing as imposition - without any sense. There were 5 more students having test that day. One of them Sandeep has got a bike. Master asked me to go with him. There are situations in life when you act without much thinking....
While Sandeep started the bike I asked catually,
'Got the licence na?'
So we started for RT office Kazhakuttom.. But unfortunately our hopes ended within 5 seconds..

Sitting behind him a noticed a red car trying to overtake us. In a nanosecond it hit somewhere in the handle of our bike and we lost balance; leaned towards right, and we both were on the road. There are times when you  are scared a lot, you scream; and there are times when you are so beyond scared, you freeze.. This time I did freeze even under sunshine. What has happened ? At this point Rancho ( in 3 Idiots) might say "All izz Well' 'All izz Well".,...but actually I was telling... "I'm alive" , "I'm alive"... I tried to get up as people ran and encircled us. I saw my leg was completely under the bike.. I asked someone to lift it up. Trying to stand I found my right hand and right leg were injured.. But the pain is bearable. 'So no fractures'.... thinking of the fact that people say fracture has unbearable pain..Sandeep had also minor injuries..

Someone gave me a glass of water.. At times when you desperately needed water you cannot ask for boiled and purified water.. For the first time I felt water was tasty.. Meanwhile a similar model, similar colour car stopped in front of us and a man around 50 years age offered us to take to the the hospital.. Going to the hospital in an AC car was better than going in an ambulance.. The nearest hospital was one SUT hospital in Kochulloor.. So he drove us towards that.. Sandeep kept on telling that it was the first time he had an accident..  I kept on complaining myself to have chosen to go by bike.. We might have felt that complaining about the past must be better than looking at the wounds.. Neither of them will have any effect on us though..

Car stopped in front of the casualty.. We stepped out... A lady around 30 years of age came to us..
'What happened?'
'Bike,...bike accident'
'Sorry we won't take any accident cases.'..,,,...... as if we reached a temple.
'Wha..aat?'
'you have to go to other hospital.'
'So what the hell are you doing with this hospital?'
'we have no option.'
We gave her a weird look..;then left the place immediately..

The 'driver' went after dropping us at Medical College.. I noticed a scar on the left side of the car and he had asked us whether we remember who hit us.. These made me sure that it was he who was the culprit... But filing a case or doing anything against him won't help us either.. So we left him with a "Thank You Sir" in as polite way as we could.. Suddenly I thought of my sister... I called her and she came in 10 minutes.. Her presence helped us from not waiting at the queue and  got the necessary treatments comfortably..
She brought me home and then was the scolding session.. Starting with a 15 min scolding from mom for getting into a bike accident. then came a 20 min scolding from dad..  That continued for the whole day.. It was another unforgettable day.. But this one prevented me form any sort of writing for 10 days!

at the reception

May7....finally I have got a day to begin with. I woke up late, around 9.45am( but I feel it's too early ), and for someone of my age group having big excuses of toiling hard for the last 2 years to get in any prestigeous
engineering college waking up too early is something difficult to digest.....Some experienced people say waking up at 5am and studying( or mugging up? ) for 3-4 hours really help, but I have never practised that... .Anyway I am not going into all that..

Yes coming back to may 7....It was a very important day.....having a marriage function in the evening. For me last week has been too boring.I have even thought that those school days were better. But this day is
different. It's our favourite and the most respected Sreelekha madam's son's marriage reception..The feeling that I can see all my friends and teachers made the day much more valuable..My mobile rang and it shown
"pran calling"...Yes thats Pran Nath( or pranny,kk )..We call him anything thats suits him at that moment..And dont think that kk refers to king kong..Only he knows it.... He asked me to be ready at 11 am so that we both can buy together a gift.. He came at 2pm.......kept me waiting for 4 hours.....thats him....."regularly irregular"..Anyway we have done the job afterall....He landed me safely in Govind's house and went to gym(don't know for what he's going there). This place, govind's house, remains to be our common starting place..... We all used to join here to go anywhere..As I expected Jaggu(Jagadiendran) was already there showing his batting and bowling skills with chinnu( govind's bro ) and with chinnu's friends..

Soon bj also came... Yeah bj is Gokul Nair..Don't tickle your brain on why we are calling him bj.Some say its shortened form of bujji......let it be like that.He is a bujji of course but not of our Govind's standards..... Govind used to be the best among us and is now excited with his 15000/- worth samsung galaxy mobile.... He deserves that..for someone who is expecting to crack almost every exam he has written this
year this might be small gift..... Who knows what else he may get....

Just before  6 we started to leave for Palayam... Incidently Vishnu( a face we have seen after 2 years or so ) and ahmed came and it was time for us to leave.
We stopped infront of the hall-Bishop Pereira hall- and Nandini also accompanied us just before we entered.... Ma'm was at the stage with his son.... She was really thrilled to see all of us... No girls( except Lekshmi P Nair ) of our class came....And that is expected also.... Govind  was busy taking pictures and sending via bluetooth to lekshmi and nandini...... Unfortunately neither of them asked him how much his galaxy costs... :-)

Coming to food...there was fried rice, appam etc.. with chicken in non-veg area..... We ate as if we haven't eaten anything for a week..Sid(sidharth) and kanju(hari),rohit, adithya and pran also came later... Those memories of our unforgettable high school days came back flourishing. Our bj's hurry to leave made me,hari and vishnu to leave early..  One thing I understood of bj was that his tension and fear are directly proportional to time(particularly night)..And even after 18 years of earth life it hasn't reduced a bit.....perhaps increased...What can we do...Thats him... Of course that day was special...... a day not to be forgotten.......
